Five Year Requirements for Nav Rules
* Coxswains and PWC operators must receive a passing score (90%) on the open book Auxiliary Navigation Rules examination, or pass the Coast Guard Institutes NAVRULES End of Course Test or Deck Watch Officer Examination within five years from the date of the successful completion of the previous exam.
* Members failing to complete the open book exam within the five year period are considered lapsed and must retake the open book exam and achieve a minimum score of 90 percent in order regain certification and receive orders. The Coast Guard Institutes Deck Watch Officer Examination is required to be taken closed book if allowed to lapse.
