Clarification of ICS Requirements

Clarification of Incident Command System (ICS) Requirements for USCG Auxiliary Members ALAUX 002/07, ALAUX 005/07, and ALAUX 018/08.

Where did ICS come from?

The history and the reasoning behind the ICS process is outlined here.

What do I need to know about ICS requirements right now?

The majority of ICS courses are already required for qualifications since being added to most PQS over the last 2 years. ICS 210 is the only course still being implemented at this time. Due to Budget constraints and a shortage of qualified instructors for 210, which can’t be given on-line and must be done in a classroom environment, the dates have been extended to give our personnel a chance to complete the course.

What is the Director of Auxiliary's and National Commodore's
requirements for completing the ICS Courses?

Any member designated "direct operational" (DO) by the Personnel Security Investigations (PSI) process should take IS 100 and IS 700. The following categories of participation require a DO designation:

  • Surface operations
  • Air operations
  • Operations planning
  • Interpreters
  • CMDCEN/OPCEN/COMMS watchstanding
  • Fixed/mobile radio facility operators
  • Port security
  • Marine Safety & Security
  • Some Staff officers
  • As deemed by Operational Commander
  • CGAUX Health Care Volunteers (G-WK program supported by (COMDTINST 6010.2 dtd 21 Jan 03))
  • IS 200, 210 and IS 800 will be required for Auxiliary leadership and Single Unit Resource Leaders (SURLs) (i.e. Auxiliary coxswains, pilots, any member qualifying in the Trident program or any other team/task force leader determined to have a need).
